Boa Vista: Secondary School intends to have its Pod School "on air" this year.

Sal Rei, Sep 16 (Inforpress) – The studio of the Pod Shchool project at Escola Secundária da Boa Vista, which started in 2023, is already partially equipped, thanks to external support, but still needs technicians to start producing content, the coordinator said.
The coordinator of the Vocational Guidance Office at Boa Vista Secondary School, Eliseu Almeida, told Inforpress that initially it was not a podcast, but a Radio School project, which entertained students with sound, providing them with moments of dancing and other activities.
From then on, and with the aim of adding value to the Rádio Escola project – given the importance that audiovisual has gained for education – it was decided to combine audio and visual and merge Rádio Escola into the Pod School project.
Eliseu Almeida considers that it was a great challenge, and that what started as “fantasy, is now a reality”.
The same source added that at this moment, in addition to some equipment such as a camera and better lighting, there is a lack of human and technical resources to be able to start producing content.
However, he indicated that they have already promoted some training actions for some students and teachers in the area of content production, covering digital marketing, image and audio editing.
“Considering that education is a bit sluggish, we need to add value”, he stated, highlighting that the students’ enthusiasm for the training and their interest in audiovisual media were notable.
According to the person in charge, students from the 9th grade onwards will bring the podcast to life, with the “supervision” of teachers.
According to the coordinator, the budget for Pod School, which is included in the Vocational Guidance Office, was initially 700 thousand escudos, which caused some surprise in the educational community of Boa Vista, as they were not used to a disciplinary group being so ambitious.
The teacher said that as Boa Vista Secondary School does not have resources and without the participation of the Ministry of Education, they had to mobilize external partnerships to acquire the studio equipment.
Almeida expects the Pod School project to go live this year, because they have been “selling the idea to students” for a long time and the commitment has been made.
In addition to the educational community, he believes that the project will benefit the island, the diaspora and everyone who has access to the content on the internet.
The coordinator appealed to the island's local authority and political representatives in general to take a more "clinical" look at education, recalling that the IMF itself pointed out that if urgent investment is not made in the quality of education, Cape Verde will have economic problems in the future.
